Ocean Breeze WaveRunners
Growing Champions Program

In 2015, prior to the Grand Opening of the Athletic Complex we knew how important it was for us to give back to the community and we started the Ocean Breeze WaveRunners with an initial roster of approximately 20 student-athletes, now in 2021 our team has grown by over 700% and has established itself as one of the best programs in the United States.  We never imagined it would expand to the level it has today and how rapidly we would watch the children grow in all aspects of their lives.

We have been fortunate to have the WaveRunners represent NYC Parks in various Regional and National level competition, showcasing our Parks Green and #OneTeamOneGoal adopted team motto.  An important part of the WaveRunners program it to educate the children in environmental stewardship, sustainability and the importance of volunteerism in our society.

All members of the WaveRunners Youth Track Club is required to complete two volunteer events per year, taking place at Ocean Breeze Park or within the Staten Island community.  To honor our athletes for both their competition accomplishments and volunteer work, the Growing Championship program will plant a tree for every national championship won as well as every one hundred hours of volunteer work they complete.

Our student-athletes have truly become today's champions, tomorrow's leaders and forever stewards of Ocean Breeze Park.
