WaveRunners Shine Under the Lights at 2026 Northeast Twilight Invitational

The Ocean Breeze WaveRunners continued their winning ways under the lights at the 2026 Northeast Twilight Invitational, the fourth & final meet of the 2026 Youth Challenge Series at Icahn Stadium on Saturday, May 9, 2026 turning in another outstanding performance by collecting multiple first-place finishes, relay victories, and podium sweeps across track and field events.

The boys distance crew led the way with dominant efforts from Hudson McGuire and Adrianko Tomecek. McGuire captured the 800m title in the 9-10 division with a strong 2:30.51 and also added a third-place finish in the 400m along with silver in the long jump. Tomecek earned gold in the 3000m 17-18 division, crossing the line in 10:14.42.

On the sprint side, Cassel Smith claimed first place in the boys 11-12 200m in 27.61, while Skylar Lam secured third in the same event. Andrew Lee took second in the boys 17-18 400m, and Stephen Baron-Williams added a third-place finish in the 13-14 division before helping power the boys 13-14 4x100 relay team to victory alongside Alfred Conteh Jr., Alexander Kania, and Nicolas Badolato in 50.57.

The throwing events were another major strength for the WaveRunners. Brian Mitchell won the boys 9-10 shot put title and later earned silver in the javelin. Jonathan Rice swept the boys 15-16 throws with first-place finishes in both shot put and javelin. In discus competition, Vincent Gallo and Tayim Yakop finished second and third respectively in the boys 11-12 division, while Nehan Wickramanayake added podium finishes in both shot put and discus.

The girls team also delivered standout performances across all event groups. Savannah McGuire won the girls 11-12 3000m and added another gold medal in the long jump. Ava Barrett captured first place in the girls 15-16 3000m, while Catherine Robisky earned silver in the 200m hurdles before winning the long jump 13-14 title with a leap of 4.95m.

The youngest WaveRunners athletes shined brightly as the girls 8U 4x100 relay team of Soleil Sajous, Mbali-Enhle Aubertin, Naomi Odumbo, and Kennedy Williams raced to first place. Odumbo also dominated the field events with victories in shot put and javelin, while Kennedy Williams and Soleil Sajous completed a WaveRunners sweep of the 8U shot put podium.

Additional strong field event performances came from Samaa Hussein, who won the girls 15-16 javelin and placed second in shot put, Ava Piscopo, who captured the girls 11-12 discus title and placed third in shot put, and podium finishes from Victoria Pavani, Jazmin Habib, and Joanne Yakop in javelin competition.

The team is back in action on Saturday, May 30th & Sunday, May 31 for the 2026 USATF New York Association Championships at Icahn Stadium.
