The Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex would like to announce that registration for the 2023 Ocean Breeze WaveRunners Youth Track and Field Club for the 2023 Outdoor Track & Field season is now open!
About the Ocean Breeze WaveRunners:
Track & Field is the sport of running, jumping, and throwing—there is something for everyone! New student-athletes will learn many disciplines of the sport as a WaveRunners. Some will specialize in one event discipline, and some might compete in a multitude of events. Typical practices include warm-ups, drills, workouts, and cool-downs; competitions called "meets," will mainly take place on the weekends and typically last six hours. Before the competition, the coaching staff will provide a tentative event schedule that will outline the approximate times athletes are scheduled to compete.
The Ocean Breeze WaveRunners is only for those ages 7-17. The athlete must be seven years old at the start of the season. Six year old are not eligible to register for the team!
Required Documents:
If the documents are not received, then the athlete will not be permitted to practice! NO EXCEPTIONS!
- USATF Membership ($25) must be completed online. Please make sure you add the Ocean Breeze WaveRunners as your affiliation (#06-1282)
- During the membership process we encourage you to upload a copy of your child's birth certificate. Athletes will not be able to compete until this step is completed.
- Physical Required (Doctor's note required before the first day of practice, stating your child is physically fit for participation)
- Recreation membership to Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex. Membership is free for all members under the age of 25.
- All local competitions are MANDATORY
- All athletes MUST be able to attend New York Association Championships on June 10th and 11th.
Practice:
The practice information below is subject to change
- Monday, Tuesday, & Thursday (4:00pm – 6:00pm)
- Athletes will be required to attend at least six practice sessions prior to being able to attend a competition.
- Practice will begin on Monday March 27, 2023.
Competitions:
The WaveRunners are a competitive track team. Please review our WaveRunners handbook, parents and athletes will be responsible for understanding and following our rules of conduct and team standards. This includes showing up and participating in practices and competitions. Practice sessions are set up to train and prepare the athletes for competitions.
Any child who misses a competition without prior notification to the coaching staff will have to pay the meet entry fees for the rest of that season.
As part of the team, athletes will receive:
- Entry fees paid for all races (Approximately $12-28 per meet)
- A team uniform before their first competition ($60 value)
Parents are responsible for:
- All airline travel to National Championship meets
- Hotel rooms for any overnight travel (athletes may room together)
- Warm-up attire (optional $66 value)
- Transportation to and from practice
- USATF Youth Membership ($25 value) - for the 2023 calendar year
Important information to know before signing up your child to be part of the team:
- Athletes are required to participate in practice two days a week and attend the competition on the weekends. Practices will be held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
- Athletes who do not participate in practice or come to meets will be removed from the team roster.
- All athletes must attend at least six practice sessions prior to their first competition.
- Athletes who are running for the Ocean Breeze WaveRunners are not permitted to race outside of the club's competition schedule without prior approval from the coaching staff, this includes road races. This policy will be enforced for the safety and health of all athletes.
- Athletes and parents will be asked to sign a standard of conduct and behavior guidelines prior to each season. Any athletes or parents found to violate these guidelines will be asked to leave the team.
- All athletes and parents are asked to be respectful to one another. Bullying, name-calling, or any other conduct unbecoming to Ocean Breeze will not be tolerated at any level.
Training Groups:
- Training groups will be designated based on age and ability level by the coaching staff.
- Our coaches have the right to make necessary adjustments based on the athlete's performance and ability at any time.
