The 2023 Ocean Breeze Elite Invitational takes place on Saturday, February 25 & is sure to be a night filled with fast races as the calendar turns to March with states right around the corner. Some of the best student-athletes from up and down the East Coast head to Ocean Breeze for one final invitational of the 2022-23 indoor season!
What to Watch For:Â
Girls 300m: Defending champion & current US # 3 Elise Cooper (McDonogh School) returns to the Ocean Breeze Elite Invitational looking to repeat as 300m champion.Â
Girls 60m: Ajanae Thompson (Union Catholic) enters as the top-seeded individual at 7.12. Thompson is committed to Villanova University in the fall. Thompson is the current US # 9 in the 55m & looks for similar success in the 60m dash this weekendÂ
Girls 60mH: Taylor Cox (Union Catholic) enters the 60mH as the top-seeded individual. Cox is currently the US # 7 in the 55mH at 7.98.Â
Girls Mile: Lindsay Hausman (Kent Place School) leads the field with her NJ #2 time of 4:56.36 & will look to hold off Peyton Hollis & Kaleigh Gunsiorowski of Union Catholic, who are both seeded at 4:58.Â
Girls Shot Put: Gabrielle Paolella (Ursuline Academy) is seeded at 41-9.25 & faces strong competition in Connecticut #1 Shalisha Robertson, who is seeded at 41-6. Robertson is the top-seeded entrant in the girl's weight throw & looks to double on Saturday.Â
Girls 800m: Freshman Katelyn Kliesch (Notre Dame Academy)Â looks to improve on her impressive freshman season as she competes in the 800m, going up against top-seeded Alexandra O'Rourke (Burnt Hills)
Boys 800m: Jelani Johnson (Bishop Loughlin), Jack Ward (Saint Anthony's), & Micah Lawson (Rahway HS) are all seeded at sub-1:55 in the 800m. Ward is coming off a second-place finish in the 1000m at the 2023 CHSAA Championships. Johnson finished in second-place in the 600m behind teammate Wesley Noble. Lawson just took second-place in the 1600m at the JSIAA Group Championships last week.Â
Boys 4x800: Current US # 6, The Bullis School looks to improve on their 3:18.86 time at the fastest track in the US on Saturday. Â
Boys 2 Mile: NJ # 2 Paul Maguire (Don Bosco Prep) leads the field of 13 entrants at 9:20.91.Â
Boys 300m: Fresh off winning the 600m & anchoring the Bishop Loughlin 4x400 team to victory, Wesley Noble, enters the 300m at the Ocean Breeze Elite Invitational. It will be a battle of the boroughs as Noble could face top-seeded Shawn Keegan (Monsignor Farrell) in the 300m final.
