World-Leading Times & New National Records Set at the 2022 New Balance Indoor Grand Prix

For the second consecutive year, the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix was held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, New York. The 2022 New Balance Indoor Grand Prix, part of the 2022 World Indoor Tour, featured the best track and field athletes from around the globe and was live on NBC for all to see.

The 2022 New Balance Indoor Grand Prix saw five national records set along with four world-leading times set and seven new Ocean Breeze facility records.

National records set today include: Gabriela Debues-Stafford (Canada) 3K - 8:33.92, Mariano Garcia (Spain) 800m - 1:45.12, and the remaining three were all set in men's 3000m with Adel Mechaal (Spain) - 7:30.82, Luis Grijalva (Guatemala) - 7:37.42 and Jonas Raess (Switzerland) - 7:39.49.

The four world-leading times include: Mikiah Brisco (USA) – 60m (7.07), Natoya Goule (Jamaica) – 800m (1:59.62), Mariano Garcia (Spain) – 800m (1:45.12) and Grant Holloway (USA) – 60mH (7.37)

Seven new Ocean Breeze Facility Records were set including: Mikiah Brisco – 60m (7.07), Natoya Goule – 800m (1:59.62), Gabriela Debues-Stafford – 3K (8:33.92), Lorraine Ugen – Long Jump (6.71m), Grant Holloway – 60mH (7.37), Andrew Coscoran – Mile (3:53.64) & Adel Mechaal – 3,000m (7:30.82)
Gabby Thomas (USA) won her fourth-straight 300m at the New Balance Grand Prix with her time of 36.21.

In his first 200m indoor race in six years, Trayvon Bromwell (USA) won the 200m today at the New Balance Grand Prix at 20.64.

Jereem Richards (Trinidad and Tobago) set a new personal-best in the 400m at 45.83. Richards dedicated his win today to his relay teammate, Deon Lendore, who tragically passed away last month.

Before the 2022 New Balance Grand Prix went live on NBC, the day started with the best student-athletes from the Catholic High Schools Athletic Association (CHSAA) along with some of the best high school and youth track and field athletes competing.

The CHSAA Boys 4x200 kicked off the action when Dylan Braithwaite, Josiah Brown, Julien Crandall & Myles Small of Holy Trinity win the CHSAA Boys 4x200 relay at 1:29.89. The CHSAA Girls 4x200 was won by Ariana Taveras, Mackenzie Fuhrer, Aleatha West & Logan Daley of Holy Trinity who collectively ran 1:49.41.

Austin Wells, Aiden Walker, Shawn Dorin Jr & Jaelen Walls (Morris Estate) won the Youth Boys 9-10 4x200m relay with their time of 2:05.81. The Ocean Breeze WaveRunners won the youth Girls 9-10 4x200m at 2:11.95

Alberic Gbaguidi, John Vitucci, Michael Cardozo Perez & Zander Mercado (Susan Wagner) won the Staten Island HS Boys 4x200m at 1:33.96

Ava LaMarca, Alepha Ferrer, Landy Brutus & Mia Peterson (Susan Wagner) won the Staten Island HS Girls 4x200m at 1:47.79. Melvin Jarnit-Bjergsoe (Westchester Wolves) won the Youth Boys 11-12 Mile at 5:20.90.

The Ocean Breeze WaveRunners own, Malina Rodriguez-King, won the Youth Girls 11-12 Mile at 5:26.91. Ellie Shea won the Junior Girls Mile with her time of 4:48.60 while Gavin Sherry won the Junior Boys Mile with his time of 4:05.10.

Brendan Anselmo, Sean Sorice, John Zgurzynski & Liam Going (Chaminade) won the CHSAA Boys 4x800 Relay at 8:02.01. The Fastest Boy & Girl in New York 55m dash was won by Ethan Wells (Morris State) & Abigail Riley (VO2Max Track Club) at 8.74 & 9.14, respectively.

The final event of the day was the CHSAA Girls Sprint Medley Relay, which saw Meghan Leonard, Jordan Moore, Saranda Capani & Alyssia Brown win it for Notre Dame Academy at 4:15.07.
