Prior to joining NYC Parks, Louis has been an influential figure in NYC track and field. Lou started his track career at Xaverian high school and continued on at Brooklyn College, where he competed in cross country, indoor and outdoor track. While at Brooklyn College, he was the CUNY Cross Country Champion in 1979 and 1981, runner up in 1980 and qualified for the Division III National Championship in both Cross Country and Outdoor track.

After college, his involvement in track flourished as he became the head track coach for Long Island University (1985-1995), where he saw his team win multiple Northeast Conference Championships in Cross Country. In addition, he was also the head coach at Bishop Ford High School from 1981 till 1998, where he developed many CHSAA and New York State Champions His highlight was winning the Distance Medley and the 3200 meter relay at the 1992 National Scholastic High School Championship.

Louis has served as the Director of special events and operations at the Armory track & field center from August 1998 to August 2006. He created, developed and directed some of the largest indoor high school track & field meets in the country.

He also created and developed two city wide youth programs (City Parks Foundation and New York Road Runners Jamboree) that introduces New York City children to sport of track & field.
In December of 2004, Louis joined the parks family with the Randall’s Island Park Alliance at the newly renovated Icahn Stadium on Randall’s Island. As the Director of Icahn Stadium, he continues to host some of the best track & field meets in the Northeast. Louis continues to be a committed and motivational team leader with exceptional knowledge of track & field rules, equipment and facility management. He is well respected in both the local and national track & field and road racing communities.
